Slum or a Holiday at the Sea

“We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased.” – C. S. Lewis

My favorite blog right now is The Journey. I'm both amazed and challenged by the sacrifices of this young girl. A girl who shares the same passions and beliefs as myself, but has radically sacrificed all her comforts in obedience. From her blog, I've been introduced to a series of sermons that are changing my life (found here). Yesterday, the above quote was mentioned in the 2nd sermon and I haven't been able to let go of the truth of it. Why are we satisfied with the temporaries of life? Why do we look at heaven as the end goal or prize? In reality, Christ alone is more than enough...He is love & peace & joy. And the amazing thing? He seeks us. He doesn't require this and that from us. He doesn't require perfection or goodness from us? He asks for us to come to Him just as we are, and offers us completeness. And yes, while drink & sex and ambition are gifts from Him, they're not the means to fulfillment. Lord, please don't let me become complacent enough that I'm satisfied in the slum when you are offering me a holiday at the beach.

Michelle...I love reading about your family and found it to be such a small world tonight! My cousin & his wife are closely associated with Amazima and waiting on their two boys!! I love reading of these growing families and praying for God's timing and will for you all. Hope you all are doing well!! Take care.

Mark and I follow The Journey also and have been listening to the Radical series together on nights Mark doesn't work. POWERFUL. Wish we could listen together, my friend!
